US Stock Futures Edge Higher; Goldman Sachs Earnings, CPI In Focus

US stock futures are slightly higher this morning, as investors are awaiting earnings reports from major companies. Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 8 points to 15,424.00 and S&P 500 index futures rose 0.10 points to 1,677.60. Nasdaq 100 futures gained 2 points to 3,075.00. US stocks closed higher on Monday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average rising 0.13% to 15,484.26, the S&P 500 index surging 0.14% to 1,682.50 and the Nasdaq 100 index gaining 0.21% to 3,607.49. The ICSC-Goldman Sachs store sales index will be released at 7:45 a.m. ET, while the Johnson Redbook Retail Sales Index will be released at 8:55 a.m. ET. The consumer price index for June will be released at 8:30 a.m. ET, while industrial production data for June will be released at 9:15 a.m. ET. The NAHB housing market index for July will be released at 10:00 a.m. ET. Brown & Brown BRO reported upbeat second-quarter earnings. Cintas CTAS reported a weaker-than-expected fourth-quarter profit and issued downbeat forecast for the fiscal 2014. The Goldman Sachs Group GS is expected to report its Q2 earnings at $2.83 per share on revenue of $7.98 billion. The Charles Schwab SCHW is expected to report its Q2 earnings at $0.19 per share on revenue of $1.32 billion. Johnson & Johnson JNJ is estimated to report its Q2 earnings at $1.39 per share on revenue of $17.71 billion. The Coca-Cola Company KO is projected to report its Q2 earnings at $0.63 per share on revenue of $12.96 billion. Yahoo! YHOO is estimated to post its Q2 earnings at $0.30 per share on revenue of $1.08 billion. Packaging Corporation of America PKG is expected to post its Q2 earnings at $0.63 per share on revenue of $770.06 million. CSX CSX is projected to post its Q2 earnings at $0.47 per share on revenue of $3.02 billion. Comerica CMA is estimated to report its Q2 earnings at $0.70 per share on revenue of $621.29 million. The Mosaic Company MOS is projected to report its Q4 earnings at $1.13 per share. European markets were mostly lower today. The STOXX Europe 600 Index dropped 0.31%, London's FTSE 100 index gained 0.20%, French CAC 40 Index declined 0.44% and German DAX 30 index fell 0.19%. Asian markets ended mostly higher, with Japan's Nikkei Stock Average rising 0.64%, China's Shanghai Composite gaining 0.31% and Australia's ASX/S&P500 rising 0.06%. Hong Kong's Heng Seng Index surged 0.04% and India's Sensex tumbled 0.98%.
