The renewable diesel project operated by Diamond
Green Diesel, the joint venture between Valero VLO subsidiary Diamond Alternative
Energy LLC and Darling International Inc., has reached mechanical completion
and the startup process will lead to full production, company officials
announced.
Once it's in full operation, the 9,300 barrel-per-day plant will process
recycled animal fat and cooking oil as well as corn oil into renewable diesel
fuel that has comparable properties to petroleum-based diesel. The renewable
diesel can be shipped by pipeline and meets low-carbon fuel standards.
"We're proud to announce that the Diamond Green Diesel plant has been
completed and started up," said Clay Bryant, Manager of Commercial Operations
for Diamond Green Diesel "The renewable diesel produced here is not only a
U.S.-made renewable fuel made from U.S.-based feedstocks, but it will also
create jobs, reduce greenhouse-gas emissions and promote energy security."
