iOS Rumor Roundup – What Apple is Likely to Announce on Monday

Next week, the World Wide Developers Conference takes place from June 10- June 14. Apple AAPL will be the headline on Monday at 10 a.m. local time or 1 p.m. EST. The event is only days away and the rumor mill is becoming more solidified in its predictions.

These predictions still have plenty of time to change, but here’s what is circulating about iOS7:

It’s Will Look Minimalist

Not much of an artsy person? Here and here are examples of minimalist art. Minimalism is all about simple and lack of clutter. In other words, Apple’s hardware design. It’s clear that iOS7 will have that kind of look when it’s unveiled.

If you’re concerned that your iPhone will look like a stark wasteland without color or personality, that’s not likely to be the case. Take a look at what simplyzesty mocked up as possible ideas.

The Weather App Might be “Cooler”

You know its true. The Apple weather app is about as useful as the maps app. Who would use Apple’s app when The Weather Channel app is so much more of a visual experience? iOS 7 may have a completely redesigned app according to 9to5mac. If it ends up looking something like this, people might actually use it.

(There are rumors that the stock app will only display Apple stock information when it rises. OK, that rumor we completely made up.)

Maps Will Actually Work?

There are reports that it will be easier to integrate Siri and Maps into newer automobiles that have a display built in. There are also some reported reliability improvements now that we’ve all fallen in love with Google maps, Apple would need some series WOW to get people to switch back to its maps app.

“We Want to Look Like Instagram”

Facebook FB takes over Instagram and suddenly everybody is using it. Take a picture, apply a filter, and you have an artsy shot to share with everybody you know. Now that Instagram is feeling a little “so six months ago”, Apple is rumored to be adding filters to its camera app.

Apparently, some Apple execs aren’t on board with the filters so this may not find its way into the new app. And why should it? Everybody interested in filters already has the Instagram app. Unless Apple has a new take on filters, it’s not likely to be hit. (Maybe animated pics like in the Harry Potter movies?)

Outside of iOS

There will likely be a new version of OSX announced that will, for now, keep the cute little icons that Jony Ive despises. A refresh of the MacBook line, and possibly iRadio, its answer to the growing popularity of Spotify and Pandora are all rumored to be in the presentation Monday.

Disclosure: At the time of this writing, Tim Parker was long Apple.
