JMP Group Announces Addition of Charles Sweeney as Director of Trading

JMP Group JMP, an investment banking and alternative asset management firm, announced today that Charles Sweeney has joined JMP Securities as a managing director and director of trading. Based in the firm's New York office, Mr. Sweeney will report to Director of Equities Thomas Wright and will have responsibility for JMP Securities' institutional equity trading and sales trading activities. “We could not be more pleased that Charlie has joined JMP,” said Mark Lehmann, president of JMP Securities. “Charlie is well known on Wall Street and has a well-deserved reputation as a top trader in the financial services space, a sector that has long been one of JMP's primary focuses. He has managed cash equity trading businesses at several prominent firms during his career and will play a key role in the evolution of JMP's institutional brokerage platform, an initiative that will remain a priority for the firm throughout 2013.” Prior to joining JMP Securities, Mr. Sweeney served as co-head of U.S. equity trading at Cantor Fitzgerald & Co., where he also had day-to-day trading responsibility for the financial sector. For the previous three years, Mr. Sweeney was head of cash equity trading and sales trading at Susquehanna Financial Group, where he participated in the overhaul of the firm's sales and trading infrastructure as part of a six-member management team. Beforehand, he spent two years at Deutsche Bank Securities, trading equities in the financial sector and overseeing all cash equity trading in his second year at the firm. From 1991 until 2007, Mr. Sweeney worked in equity trading at Merrill Lynch & Co., holding a variety of managerial positions and completing his tenure there as a managing director and head of the healthcare and financial sectors, with day-to-day trading responsibility for the healthcare sector. Mr. Sweeney holds a BS in business from Penn State University.
