Pre-open movers US stock futures are slightly higher this morning, as investors are awaiting earnings from Alcoa (NYSE: AA) later in the day. Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 10 points to 13,317.00 and S&P 500 index futures rose 0.20 points to 1,456.10. Nasdaq 100 futures gained 1.50 points to 2,719.25.

A Peek Into Global Markets European markets were higher today. The STOXX Europe 600 Index rose 0.28%, London's FTSE 100 Index gained 0.39%, German DAX 30 Index climbed 0.22% and French CAC 40 Index rose 0.67%.

Asian markets ended mostly lower, with Japan's Nikkei Stock Average falling 0.86%, China's Shanghai Composite declining 0.41% and Australia's S&P/ASX 200 Index dropping 0.54%. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index fell 0.94% and India's Sensex gained 0.26%.

Broker Recommendation Analysts at Piper Jaffray upgraded Joy Global (NYSE: JOY) from “neutral” to “overweight.” The target price for Joy Global has been raised from $63 to $84.

Joy Global shares gained 0.48% to $67.29 in after-hours trading.
