Tutor Perini Corporation TPC, a leading civil and building
construction company, today announced that the Company and its subsidiaries,
Tutor Perini Building Corp. and Keating Building Company, received two 2012
Best Project of the Year awards from Engineering News-Record for the Resorts
World Casino New York City and Grand Canyon University Arena in Phoenix,
Arizona. Tutor Perini Building Corp. also received the 2012 Project of the
Year award from the Nevada Contractors Association and Associated General
Contractors for Terminal 3 at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas,
Nevada.
All of the projects were judged on a variety of criteria, including
innovation, contribution to the community, aesthetic quality, and workmanship.
Resorts World Casino, a multi-phased $550 million construction project,
included approximately 736,000 square-feet of renovations and new
construction. Resorts World, located in Queens and New York City's only
casino, is helping revitalize the area with its 50,000 daily visitors. The
four-story casino has 5,000 video slots and electronic game tables, dining
options, and an event center. Resorts World has also helped rejuvenate a slice
of New York City's history—the Aqueduct Raceway, a horse racetrack that
originally opened in 1894. The adaptive reuse property is built into the
raceway's grandstand. The goal was to preserve as much of the Aqueduct's
existing grandstand as possible.
Grand Canyon University Arena is the signature piece of Grand Canyon
University. The 5,000-seat arena has distinguished itself as a model facility
in an emerging design trend to construct small intimate and versatile
entertainment venues. The venue is used for student and public events,
including well-known national entertainment. The arena is also helping
revitalize the west Phoenix metropolitan area.
Terminal 3 at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, Nevada is the
largest public works project in the state's history. The $1.2 billion project
covers 1.9 million square-feet and has 14 aircraft gates—seven domestic and
seven direct international. The state-of-the art terminal has advanced
security and port-of-entry technology, kiosks equipped for self-baggage-check,
self-boarding gates, eight miles of baggage conveyors, and automated aircraft
docking for streamlined operations.
