US stock futures are lower this morning, after downbeat earnings from Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL). Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average dipped 87 points to 12,969.00 and S&P 500 index futures fell 10.30 points to 1,397.90. Nasdaq 100 futures dropped 16 points to 2,632.00.

US stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average rising 0.20% to 13,103.68, the S&P 500 index gaining 0.30% to 1,412.97 and the Nasdaq 100 index rising 0.15% to 2,986.12.

The Commerce Department is scheduled to release GDP data for the third quarter at 8:30 a.m. ET. However, the University of Michigan's consumer sentiment index for the month of October will be released at 9:55 a.m. ET.

Merck & Co (NYSE: MRK) is expected to report its Q3 earnings at $0.92 per share on revenue of $11.57 billion. Comcast (NASDAQ: CMCSA) is projected to report its Q3 earnings at $0.46 per share on revenue of $16.08 billion. Aon plc (NYSE: AON) is estimated to report its Q3 earnings at $0.89 per share on revenue of $2.79 billion.

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co (NYSE: GT) is projected to report its Q3 EPS at $0.59 on revenue of $5.87 billion. Newell Rubbermaid (NYSE: NWL) is estimated to report its Q3 EPS at $0.44 on revenue of $1.54 billion.

The Interpublic Group of Companies (NYSE: IPG) is expected to report its Q3 EPS at $0.17 on revenue of $1.70 billion. Rockwell Collins (NYSE: COL) is estimated to report its Q4 EPS at $1.13 on revenue of $1.33 billion. Coventry Health Care (NYSE: CVH) is expected to report its Q3 EPS at $0.73 on revenue of $3.50 billion.

Apple posted its FQ4 earnings at $8.67 per share, missing analysts' estimates of $8.75 per share.

Amazon.com (NASDAQ: AMZN) reported downbeat third-quarter results.

Deckers Outdoor (NASDAQ: DECK) lowered its 2012 forecast.

European markets were lower today. The STOXX Europe 600 Index fell 0.54%, London's FTSE 100 Index dropped 0.54%, French CAC 40 Index declined 0.43% and German DAX 30 index fell 0.35%.

Asian markets ended lower, with Japan's Nikkei Stock Average falling 1.35%, China's Shanghai Composite dropping 1.68% and Australia's S&P/ASX 200 dropping 0.82%. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index fell 1.21% and India's Sensex dipped 0.70%.

Nymex crude-oil futures declined $0.66 to trade at $85.39 a barrel in electronic trade, while gold futures fell $8 to $1,705 an ounce.

The dollar index (DXY) fell 0.02% to trade at 80.07. The euro declined 0.02% versus the dollar to trade at $1.2933.

The US dollar declined 0.47% against the Japanese yen to trade at ¥79.92.
