Staples (NASDAQ: SPLS) reported weaker-than-expected second-quarter sales.

Its sales declined 5.5% to $5.50 billion in the quarter, missing analysts' estimates of $5.72 billion.

Staples shares dropped 5.24% to $12.75 in pre-market trading.
