Will There be a New iPhone Released in September?

An article published in Digitimes has become a critical source for rumors regarding the release of the Apple iPad and the iPhone later this year. The article states that Pegatron Technology has received orders for a next-generation iPhone to be launched in September as well as a 10-inch iPad to be released in the 4th Quarter. Furthermore, Digitimes has stated that 7-inch iPad will be manufactured by Foxconn Electronics and will reportedly be released in August of this year. The claims regarding the iPhone appear believable under the assumption that Apple will return to releasing the iPhone products within one-year intervals. With the iPhone 4S released last October, it is reasonable to believe that the iPhone 5 will be released this coming September. Additionally, Apple faces tough competition in the smartphone market with the upcoming release of the Samsung Galaxy S III. The Galaxy's quad-core 1.4GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, and 4.8 inch HD display currently put the iPhone 4S to shame. According to Reuters, Apple sold 93 million iPhones last year in contrast to Samsung's sale of 95 million smartphones, which suggests that Apple will have to make some drastic changes to meet Samsung's challenge this year in order to effectively compete in the market for smartphones. The claims that Digitimes makes regarding the iPads, however, appear considerably less probable. While it is possible that Apple has at least considered the idea of a 7-inch iPad, it isn't particularly evident that these iPads will even be brought out of the lab anytime soon. In addition, Apple has maintained its annual 10-inch iPad releases within March or April. The release of a new generation iPad later this year would give ultimately the current model of the iPad a considerably shorter lifecycle.
