Anglo American Q1 Iron-Ore Production Surges 17%

reported a 17% rise in its first-quarter iron-ore production to 11.7 million tonnes. Anglo American's copper production climbed 21% to 168,400 tons. Production of export metallurgical coal jumped 73% to 3.7 million tonnes, and dropped 8% versus the fourth quarter of 2011. Its nickel production surged 97% to 12,000 tonnes and 21% from the fourth quarter of 2011. However, platinum equivalent refined production gained 5% to 593,200 ounces. Diamond production declined 16% to 6.2 million carats and fell 4% from the fourth quarter of 2011. Anglo American shares closed at $18.47 yesterday.
