Facebook's FB upcoming IPO will be listed on the NASDAQ.
Normally, the selection of an exchange may not be a significant event. However, Facebook will be one of the largest IPOs on record. Thus, the company's selection of the NASDAQ over the NYSE could be significant for the future of the exchanges.
Why did Facebook select the NASDAQ? The NASDAQ is home the majority of tech companies, including tech giants Apple AAPL, Google GOOG, and Microsoft MSFT. Further, NASDAQ's dual-marketing capabilities may have proved attractive.
Shares of the exchange itself NDAQ popped on the announcement, while shares of rival NYSE NYX traded slightly slower.
