Shares of B/E Aerospace Inc (NASDAQ: BEAV) surged about 2.3% after the company announced its plans to acquire UFC Aerospace Corp for around $400 million in cash. B/E Aerospace also lifted its 2012 earnings forecast. B/E Aerospace now projects 2012 earnings of $2.75 per share, versus its previous outlook of $2.65 per share. The acquisition is likely to close before the end of the first quarter.
Shares of Sprint Nextel Corp (NYSE: S) fell about 0.5% after the company announced its plans to combine its consumer and business units.
Shares of Southwest Airlines Co (NYSE: LUV) rose about 1.3% after the company reported that it flew 8.2 billion revenue passenger miles in December, flat versus the year-ago period. Available seat miles climbed 1.8% to 10.5 billion. However, December load factor declined to 78.4% from 80.1%.
Shares of AstraZeneca PLC (NYSE: AZN) dropped about 1.1% after the company reaffirmed its full-year earnings forecast guidance for 2011. It projects core earnings in the lower half of $7.20 to $7.40 per share.
Shares of DSP Group (NASDAQ: DSPG) surged about 3.6% after the company lifted its forecast for fourth-quarter results. DSP now expects quarterly revenue of $38 million. In October, the company projects Q4 revenue of $34 million to $38 million and a net loss of $0.24 per share.
