Overseas, European markets ended their trading session higher. Britain's FTSE 100 gained 1.15%, Germany's DAX increased by 0.74% and France's CAC 40 rallied by 1.12% on the session. Asian stocks ended their session mixed, however. China's Shanghai Index slid by 1.08%, Japan's Nikkei 225 increased by 0.54%, and the Hang Seng index gained 0.20%.

On the economic calendar, Change in Nonfarm Payrolls came in at 120K versus an estimate of 125K; Change in Manufacturing Payrolls came in at 2K versus an estimate of 9K; the Unemployment Rate came in at 8.6% versus an estimate of 9%. On the commodity front, gold and silver futures traded lower today, with gold trading about 0.1% lower today. Energy futures are mixed, however, with crude oil up over 0.8% near the $101 level and gasoline futures are trading higher by about 2.9%. Natural Gas futures are lower by about 1.6% and copper futures are trading over 0.0.4% lower.

On the earnings front today, Big Lots (NYSE: BIG) reports Q3 EPS $0.06 vs $0.09 Est; Revenues $1.14B vs $1.13B Est; Scotiabank (NYSE: BNS) reports Q4 EPS C$1.10 vs C$1.08 Est; Revenues C$4.35B vs C$4.30B Est.

In corporate news, Silicon Labs (NASDAQ: SLAB) announced that it has settled with Airoha under mutually acceptable conditions.

Shire PLC (NASDAQ: SHPGY) announced that the FDA has approved clinical trials for a hypotension treatment.

Rubicon Minerals Corp (NYSE: RBY) announced that the Ontario Ministry of Northern Development has accepted its production plans.
