Determined College Graduate Becomes Human Ad

You have to stand back and applaud the determination of Alexander Monsanto, the 25-year-old who has been walking the streets of San Francisco wearing a sandwich board that says “Hire Me”, handing out his resume. Having earned his Bachelor's degree in accounting, Monsanto has tried everything in his attempt to get work. “I've basically been pushed to this point,” said Monsanto. “Craigslist, networking… I've tried everything. This is my last ditch effort.” Monsanto has been trying the sandwich board approach to job hunting since last week, and he's already received some encouraging responses. “Pandora and Wells Fargo have spoken to me and taken my resume,” said Monsanto. “I had a couple on interviews on Friday with start-up companies. So in a short space of time, I've had some interest. It's a good way to meet people.” The response from the general public has been positive too. “The public have almost all been supportive,” he says. “People wish me luck all the time, and I get a lot of sympathy.” 2011 seems to be the year of the sandwich board if this young lady in England is anything to go by. In an age when everyone is finding their jobs and their lovers online, perhaps this tech-free approach is the way to stand out from the crowd.
