The largest fleet of electric buses is now being delivered by BYD Auto. Slated for delivery before the 2011 International Universiade Games (which take place in August), BYD will unload more than 300 eBUS-12s, making it the largest all-electric bus fleet in the world. BYD describes the eBUS as the first “pure electric bus designed and manufactured independently by BYD,” and features an in-wheel motor drive system and Iron Phosphate battery technology. BYD says that because the drive system requires no axel, the eBUS floor can sit lower than any other bus, making it “very rider-friendly.” When the 2011 International Universiade Games are done, the electric buses will be incorporated into Shenzhen's city bus fleet. Looks like Warren Buffett's investment in the company is about to pay off. This should be good news for Berkshire Hathaway Inc.
