WikiLeaks: Targeting Bank of America Or Not? (BAC)

In the rush to be the first to publish the latest breaking news, it seems that the media has gotten ahead of itself in reporting that Bank of America Corporation (NYSE: BAC) is the “confirmed” target of WikiLeaks.

According to Forbes, that is not at all the case.

In reality, Julian Assange did not specify which bank WikiLeaks was targeting during his interview with the Times of London. All he said was that he had enough material to make the bosses of a major bank resign.

Bit that didn't stop AFP from picking up the story, which misinterpreted it as a confirmation that Bank of America was the target. This caused other news organizations – including the Huffington Post, Boing Boing, and Business Insider – to report the mistake as if it were fact.
