On CNBC's Fast Money
, Dan Nathan suggested that investors with a long position in
Apple Inc.AAPL
should use a collar to protect their position. Nathan thinks that this strategy should be used by investors who don't want to sell the stock, but they are worried that it could revisit its August lows. He would sell the December 130 call for $1.50 against a long stock position and buy the December 100 put for $2.50. This options structure would cost $1 and the position would be protected below $99. If the stock trades to $130 or higher until the December expiration an investor can make $14 or roughly 10 percent. The stock is also going to pay the dividend and the dividend date should be in November.
