are finding it tough to retain customers and grow, the smaller chains seems to be the that are benefitting from the economy doing well. California Pizza Kitchen, Inc. is one such chain. GJ Hart, California Pizza CEO, was recently on CNBC to discuss the new trends in the restraint business and how McDonald's can solve its problem. New Trends "Well Pizza is still the mainstay of our business for sure, but what we are learning is trends are about flavours and they are about ingredients that you can see and that are fresh and seasonal," Hart said. "And so what we are doing is widening our menu with some offerings […] Just widening the menu a little bit." "We in fact have some things like lobster flat breads, which are unique and different. So, we are bringing them to market in a way that a consumer expects us to have a unique twist to it and we think we do." Connecting With Customers Hart was asked what does he think bigger chains like McDonald's are doing wrong. He replied, "Well I think, it's about staying relevant for what the trends are today and look every company goes through ups and downs and they'll be back, they are a great organization and they know how to do things well." "It's connecting with consumer and in fact that's what we are trying to do at California Pizza Kitchen in what we call our next chapter. The next 30 years is bringing that innovative, creative spirit back to what we do day in and day out and be first to market," Hart concluded.
