CEO of Brewery Ommegang Talks High-End 'Game Of Thrones' Beer And Sales
Simon Thorpe, CEO of Brewery Ommegang, spoke on CNBC's Squawk Box Thursday morning about their new line of Game of Thrones beers based on the HBO show, as well as social media engagement's affect on sales.
Thorpe painted a picture of Brewery Ommegang as a tiny spot tucked away in upstate New York.
“It sits at the top of the quality pyramid. I mean, they're probably only four or five breweries in the country that can do what we can do and when you get a hookup like this, it transforms what you can do,” said Thorpe, regarding HBO approaching them to make their Game of Thrones beers.

“We can't afford a big TV budget, so this has given us, I think, something in the reason of 200 million social media impressions. I mean, that's transforming for a little brewery like us.”
He cited a “direct correlation” between between his brewery's social media impressions and sales.
Thorpe said that HBO is infamous for having a fabulous working reputation with actors and directors. The same is true for beer companies, which he said allowed for “great creative license” when crafting beers around their Game of Thrones storylines.
