Like hotdogs? J. Cliff Hudson,
SonicSONC
chairman and CEO, discussed National Hotdog Day with the folks over at CNBC's Squawk Box. He also talked about the future of the fast-food industry into the year. Sonic's National Hotdog Day offer, $1 All-American Dogs and Chili Cheese Coneys, is their way of celebrating the event with hotdog enthusiasts. Hudson promoted the Cheesy Bacon Pretzel Dog while talking about the celebration, and noted that it wasn't part of the National Hotdog Day offer. "It's very popular with our costumers," said Hudson.

Hudson also mentioned that Sonic's entire menu is available throughout the day, meaning that someone can have a hotdog from the fast-food chain at any point during the meaty holiday. "People that've been working all night, and they're just getting off work shift, often like kind of a dinner meal when they come in in the morning," said Clifford. Hudson also commented on difficulties in the fast-food industry, saying that consumers are underemployed and over-leveraged. He said that despite those challenges, Sonic has seen good momentum, citing their half-priced shakes after 8:00 p.m. and their pretzel dog as winners for the company. "We're having a very good summer," said Hudson.
