Erin Burnett's Tearful Goodbye

It was a tearful goodbye for Squawk on the Street co-anchor Erin Burnett.

Today was her last day with CNBC, a cable network where she has been known for reporting global business news. During her time with the network, she hosted live shows from five different continents and all of the BRICs. In 2009, she was selected as one of Fortune's Top 40 Under 40. She is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and has produced several primetime documentaries, including "On Assignment: Iraq" and "India Rising: The New Empire."

Mark Haines, who co-anchors Squawk on the Street with Burnett, concluded the show with a reel of not-too-serious clips from Burnett's career (ex: she rides a bull, fights sickness on a tanker, and gives water to a camel).

Afterwards, Burnett provided Haines with a few gifts:

• Camel magnets

• A chicken card (“Erin and I have a thing about chickens,” Haines said, to which Burnett quickly responded, “Don't read it on the air!”)

• Cheetos lip gloss

Haines was very pleased. “Outstanding!” he said.

“I know the way to your heart, Mark,” Burnett said half-jokingly.

“Where are you shopping!?” Haines replied.

“And,” Burnett added, “‘cause the Khaddafy keychain that I gave you [from Libya] somehow broke, I got you a new keychain from another place that I went to.”

That keychain was from Tahiti.

“So I wanna say—” Burnett started.

“No,” Haines interrupted, reaching for her hand. “I wanna say it first, then you can say it. You should have the last word.”

His voice starts to break.

“Coming to work for the last five and a half years has been an absolute joy. You are the best,” he said. “The absolute best. We wish you the best of luck. We're gonna miss you a lot.”

“Well, I feel the same way,” Burnett, said, holding back tears.

“I'm gonna go home and cry,” Haines concluded.

While it's a sad day for CNBC, this is far from the end of Burnett's career. Next month, viewers can look forward to seeing her on CNN.
