Watch Discover's First Super Bowl Commercial In 30 Years Here

An estimated 184 million viewers are expected to tune into Super Bowl XLIX today, according to the National Retail Federation's (NRF) Super Bowl Spending Survey. However, many couldn't care less whether the New England Patriots or the Seattle Seahawks take home the title, as they're solely focused on the commercials.

Discover Financial Services DFS is joining in the fun by making its return to the Super Bowl ad circuit after a nearly 30 year hiatus. In fact, they'll be the only credit card company to air an ad spot during this year's game.

The commercial focuses on the Discover it card, showcasing the fact that customers receive their free FICO credit scores on monthly statements and online, so they're never faced with an unpleasant surprise — like coming home to find a screaming goat in their living rooms, as depicted in the ad.

Up to 750 million free FICO credit scores have been given to Discover customers already, according to the commercial.

Super Bowl Ads Reach Sky-High Rates

NBC announced on Wednesday that the network had sold out of ad spots for the big game, at a record-breaking average price of $4.5 million per 30-second ad, according to CNN Money. This marks a significant increase from the $4 million Fox took in last year and the $3.5 million NBC charged the last time it broadcasted the Super Bowl in 2012.

Despite the hefty price tag, advertisers can expect to have the full attention of many viewers when their commercial spots air. The NRF survey revealed that besides the game itself, 22.8 percent of 18 to 24-year-olds rate watching the ads higher than the halftime show or even the chance to spend time with friends and family during the big event.
