Thursday's USDA hog slaughter was 423,000 head versus a year ago at 421,000 head. Cash markets were steady to $1.00 higher. Pork cut-out values were lower on Thursday. The USDA reported that weekly production was 1.666 million head versus 1.685 million a year ago.
Lean Hog futures are trading lower Friday morning. April Hogs are trading at 66.50, down 0.62. June Hogs are trading at 82.27, down 0.32. Chatter about weak demand is weak and more pigs continues after Thursday's decline. Trading is expected to be choppy on Friday.
