The U.S. stock market has been grinding higher over the last hour of trade and the major averages are sitting near session highs. At last check, the S&P and Nasdaq Composite had reversed earlier losses and were sitting in positive territory. The S&P had gained a little less than 2 points while the Nasdaq was up nearly 5 points. The Dow Jones Industrial Average had shed roughly 16 points but was trading well off its worst levels of the session. The leading sectors on the day have been consumer staples (0.53%), transportation (0.51%) and healthcare (0.42%). The laggards include technology and utilities which have registered a loss of 0.25% and 0.24%, respectively. In the commodities markets, risk appetite remains cautious. NYMEX crude is falling again and is now firmly below the $100.00 level. At last check, crude futures were trading down a little more than 1% at $97.44. Most of the soft commodities are trading lower on the session with the exception of sugar and cocoa. Metals are mixed with copper registering a gain of 0.74% while gold and silver were both moderately lower on the day. COMEX gold futures were last trading down 0.32% to $1,640.00 and silver futures had shed 0.88% to $30.165.
