Number Of Chinese Hedge Fund Launches Nears 25,000

The Chinese regulatory body has introduced looser regulation for the investment community over the past few years, which has led to a surge in hedge fund launches in the country. Value Walk, citing The Asset Management Association of China, reported there are 24,625 Chinese-based hedge funds as of December 2015 - up from nearly 17,000 at the beginning of the year. Value Walk noted that the Chinese government hopes to improve market liquidity and increase institutional participation, especially following the "dramatic" rise and fall of the Chinese stock market throughout 2015. The publication added that of the nearly 25,000 Chinese hedge funds, 54 of them have more than 5 billion yuan (approximately $770 million) in assets under management.
