Who's Acquiring BP?

JPMorgan Chase JPM circulated a note today which mulled over the potential buyers of BP plc BP, in case of a merger and acquisition scenario. JPM said that Exxon Mobil XOM or Royal Dutch Shell RDS might be the ones which will go for the kill in that scenario. According to Joe Terranova of Virtus Investment Partners, “BP is not Lehman Brothers. They have tremendous global assets.” Terranova believed that XOM, RDS or even ConocoPhillips COP will make the move and whosoever has the best balance sheet will win the game. Brian Kelly of Kanundrum Capital wondered when the M&A game start as he believed that BP would face "big problems" if the company’s relief well does not do the trick of stopping the oil spill.
