reports that, for the first time, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has estimated the potential of undiscovered onshore shale oil and gas reserve resources in Alaska's North Slope. The estimate ranges up to 2 billion barrels of oil and up to 80 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. Shale oil and shale gas formations in the lower 48 states were used as geologic and engineering analogs in the assessment.
