Leafwire Offers Its Advertisers Up To $10,000 In Free Twitter Ads, Celebrating The Platform's Easing Of Restrictions

Elon Musk to the rescue!

Twitter just updated its advertisement rules, inviting the cannabis industry to legally promote on the social platform for the first time in bird app history. This amendment opens brands and businesses up to a wide range of new possibilities, and cannabis network Leafwire is ready to support the industry in this new venture with up to $10,000 in free Twitter advertising per client.

As a leading cannabis industry-centric social media platform, Leafwire connects over 50,000 cannabis professionals to over 25,000 cannabis companies across 100 countries – but that isn’t the company’s only area of expertise.

Leafwire has a successful arm that supports global cannabis companies in their B2B marketing efforts, and while operators are both excited to advertise on Twitter and wary of navigating the social media platform’s still-restrictive approach, Leafwire aims to offer their array of experience as the industry continues to evolve and open itself up to more mainstream opportunities.

"Our advertisers have been asking to run ads on Twitter for years. Giving away up to $10,000 in free Twitter ads is our way of helping the industry and all our loyal advertisers take advantage of a massive opportunity on day one," said Leafwire CEO and founder Peter Vogel.

"To be clear, these bonuses are being provided to our advertisers based on the size of their campaigns with Leafwire, but we’re confident this will be a great way for our advertisers to test the waters on Twitter, at no additional cost."

Marketers have been waiting for Twitter to ease restrictions.

"For years, I have found Leafwire to be the only open social platform that does not censor any form of cannabis content. Even Linkedin has started censoring ads from ancillary companies, even cannabis tech companies. So it’s great to see we now have another option,” says Steve Goldner, chief brand officer at Brand Building Cannabis.

The industry can definitely use the help – Twitter’s new amendment is exciting, but riddled with murky language that makes what is permissible versus what isn’t, still quite confusing.

While the industry is allowed to “promote brand preference and informational cannabis-related content for CBD, THC and cannabis-related products and services,” the promotion or offer of the actual sale of cannabis (including cannabinoids like CBD) is still against the platform’s rules – and so is the depiction of anyone under the influence of cannabis, or any “claims of efficacy or health benefits.”

This keeps operators’ hands somewhat tied in regard to brand promotion, but Twitter’s new policy is still a step in the right direction for cannabis.

"Twitter's new policy change represents an opportunity for the cannabis industry to try a new paid channel, one that has previously been closed to them. There is an exciting chance to evaluate return on ad spend for brands of all sizes.” said Founder and CEO of the Cannabis Marketing Association Lisa Buffo.

Hopefully, Twitter will reexamine its policy down the line, but regardless of restrictions, it’s essential that cannabis businesses get in on this amendment and make the most of it. Active, successful participation is the only thing that will inform an eventual expansion of cannabis advertisement permissions.

"Having a major social media network offering advertising to cannabis companies – including those who sell THC – means it's time to stop ignoring Twitter. Not only is it great for your brand's SEO, but there are tons of cannabis consumers there. Think outside the Zuckerberg box,” said founder of Hybrid Social Amy Donohue.

Of course, it’s still understandable for brands to feel nervous or hesitant when it comes to having a Twitter presence – and that’s exactly why Leafwire is ready and willing to help out. Leafwire will be offering the Free Twitter Ads to its advertising clients and the level of ad credits, will be based on the specific size of each new advertising package that Leafwire is managing for each advertiser, with up to $10,000 in Free Twitter Ads per advertiser.
