More eBooks than Print Books Sold: Amazon

announced yesterday it is now selling more eBooks than both hardcover and paperback books, less than four years after the online retailer introduced Kindle books.

“We had high hopes

that this would happen eventually, but we never imagined it would happen this quickly—we've been selling print books for 15 years and Kindle books for less than four years,” Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said in a statement. Amazon broke down some of the statistics. Since 1 April this year, for every 100 print books Amazon sold, it moved 105 Kindle books. Free Kindle books are excluded from this figure. So far this year, the retailer has also shipped more than three times the amount of books than the same period in 2010. Bezos also made a point that his company's Kindle with Special Offers, which retails for cheaper but features ads, has become the bestselling member of the Kindle family.
