The Daily Mail
has a horrifying report about a man who, unaware that his wife had given birth to a baby girl back home, died while attempting Mount Everest. Forty-two year-old John Delaney, a managing director of an online market prediction company, is thought to have collapsed less than 50 meters from the top, making him the first Irish man to die while trying to reach the summit. Though he passed away last Saturday, his team had been out of contact with the base camp for several days. Consequently, the team was not able to confirm his death until this past Tuesday. In addition to his wife, Orla, and new daughter, Hope, Delaney leaves behind two young sons – three-year-old Caspar and two-year-old Alexander. Orla's brother, Liam Hurley, told the Press Association that he lived for his family. “The one person who can describe him best is the one person who can't speak at the moment, and that's Orla,” he told the association. “He was a generous, loving guy – the family came first for him,” Hurley continued. “He adored his two children, and he spent as much time as he could with them. It's just a shame he's not going to get to meet the third.” Sadly, the Daily Mail reports that Delaney's body will not be recovered since it would be too dangerous for someone to attempt to bring it back.
