How Do People Want To Celebrate Valentine's Day? Gift Cards More Than Dinner

Some married couples that have spent decades together are still unsure how to celebrate Valentine's Day. But don't worry, Morning Consult has an easy guide on how to celebrate the holiday and what the most popular gifts are.

According to a survey of 2,000 adults in the United States, Morning Consult found that 51 percent of American adults will partake in the holiday in some form and another 10 percent aren't sure. Among those who are celebrating the holiday, 59 percent of Americans making $50,000 to $100,000 will be celebrating the holiday compared to 45 percent of Americans making less than $50,000.

Here are some other stats concerning who is more likely to celebrate the holiday:

  • Urbanites (55 percent) versus rural Americans (46 percent).
  • Republicans (56 percent) versus Democrats (50 percent).
  • Hispanics (62 percent) are the most likely ethnicity to celebrate the holiday.
  • Roman Catholics (59 percent) are the most likely religious group to celebrate.

Buy A Gift Card, Go For Dinner

Morning Consult noted 31 percent of people indicated a gift card is their preferred gift. In fact, among women, 27 percent prefer a gift card over tickets for an event at 13 percent and even jewelry at an equal 13 percent.

Finally, 69 percent of those celebrating will be going out for dinner.
