Kara Swisher Offers 7 Reasons Tech Executives Actually Like Trump

Technology executives have made their nearly unanimous voices heard during the presidential campaign trail and wrote an open letter against President-elect Donald Trump.

Several months later, much has changed: Silicon Valley executives are now optimistic of what is to be expected from Trump's presidency, at least according to Recode's Kara Swisher.

Swisher stated that she spoke with many Silicon Valley leaders, and the consensus is that they are seeing "some promising signs from the new power structure in D.C."

With that said, Swisher detailed seven reasons why tech executives are no longer worried (or as worried as they have been) over Trump's White House.

1. What's Done Is Done

Simply put, businesses do not stop operating just because executives didn't vote for Trump.

2. Open Relationship

Several executives Swisher spoke with suggested that Trump and his transition staff, highlighted by notable Silicon Valley billionaire Peter Thiel, have been more open to talks than prior administrations.

"We discussed substantive issues at the meeting," Swisher quoted an un-named executive that took part in Trump's tech summit. "And Trump seemed fully engaged with our suggestions."

3. Deregulation

If there is one thing the technology industry needs the most to thrive its deregulation.

Swisher stated that the "we-love-to-disrupt" attitude of Silicon Valley will no longer have to contend with the "prickly regulators that get in the way of a good time."

4. Government Agency Cooperation

In addition to deregulation, the Trump administration is expected to remove a lot of the bureaucratic red tape that plagues agencies such as the Food and Drug Administration or more important to the tech sector — the Federal Aviation Administration.

5. International Trade

The tech universe is now working under the assumption that Trump will fight for American companies to succeed in the international market and push back hard against foreign governments that aren't necessarily playing fair, including China.

"He seems intent on leveling the playing field in overseas markets and that's good," an un-named executive told Swisher.

6. All-Star Team

Trump has chosen to surround himself with business leaders who think outside of the box. These outsiders can perhaps be the ones who can bring much needed change within the "muck of D.C."

Many tech executives highlighted Trump's Secretary of State Rex Tillerson as being a global think and doer.

7. 2 Trillion More Reasons

Finally, one of the main reasons why tech leaders like Trump stems from his pledge to help bring home the $2 trillion technology companies have been parking overseas.

Overseas cash is subject to a hefty tax once repatriated but Trump now has "all the pieces on the political board game."
