Flashback: President-Elect Trump's Best Negotiating Tactic

One of President-elect Donald Trump's pitches to the American public was that he will bring his negotiating skills to the national level.

CNBC took a look back to Trump's 2007 appearance on "The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch" show, and his answer to what the best negotiating tip is.

Trump said he always gives the impression of competition during a negotiating process, as it makes the other side nervous. Trump continued that his own team members encourage him not to disclose he is in talks with other parties.

"I want to drum 'em, I want to brainwash them, I want them to think that there is so much competition," he answered. "And I think that's important. Know your subject, create competition, feel confident in yourself."

Here are some other winning negotiating tactics Trump detailed in his book "The Art of the Deal," as compiled by Inc.com:

1. "I always go into the deal anticipating the worst. If you plan for the worst — if you can live with the worst — the good will always take care of itself."

2. "The worst thing you can possibly do in a deal is seem desperate to make it. That makes the other guy smell blood, and then you're dead."

3. "You can't con people, at least not for long. You can create excitement, you can do wonderful promotion and get all kinds of press, and you can throw in a little hyperbole. But if you don't deliver the goods, people will eventually catch on."

4. "I believe in spending what you have to. But I also believe in not spending more than you should."

5. "I like to think that I have that instinct. That's why I don't hire a lot of number-crunchers, and I don't trust fancy marketing surveys. I do my own surveys and draw my own conclusions."
