Why Chris Christie Should Not Run For President Now

There were
reports over the weekend
that New Jersey Chris Christie was "'thinking about running now, very carefully.'" Christie has come out and adamantly denied a run for President in 2012 as recently as last month, when a Bloomberg columnist
tweeted
that the New Jersey governor was considering running. "It's completely untrue -- one hundred percent that is not true,” Christie adviser Mike Duhaime said in response to the tweet in quotes captured by the
Huffington Post.
“Nothing's changed. I'm not sure who [Alter's] source is or what they are saying, but nothing's changed." These rumors seem to pop up every few weeks or so, especially as the Republican Presidential primaries heat up. At the CNBC Delivering Alpha conference last week, there was a
hatred for President Obama,
as many of the attendees feel he is not providing leadership, and instead is playing class warfare and acting like a community activist, instead of the leader of the free world. There was also a concern about Governor Rick Perry winning the Republican nomination, and some said that should Perry win the nomination, that it was too much like George W. Bush too soon, and Obama would win. There is a lot of support for Mitt Romney, but some do not feel as if he can win against Obama. This leaves Christie, and his no-nonsense ways. Christie is a very smart man, having been the Attorney General of the United States under Bush, and he knows that he is probably not ready to run for President of the United States. There is a lot of work that needs to happen still in New Jersey to get its fiscal house in order, and that hard work is currently underway. Many view Christie as a strong leader, and despite his sometimes gruff ways, he polls pretty well, as evidenced by a Quinnipac poll posted by the
New York Post.
As of the middle of August, Christie had 47% approval rating, with 46% disapproving. That is much lower than it has been during his term, but it was the highest approval rating in the poll in four months. Christie has been true to his word, and running for President now would be something that he has long prided himself on. Not flip-flopping on issues, no matter the circumstances. Yes, the country is in a lot of danger fiscally, but not so much that another term from Christie as Governor of the Garden State would materially change things. He has said previously he would think about running in 2016, but nothing is a definite yet. I suspect that if Christie ran for the Republican nomination this year, he would probably win, and could potentially win the presidency, as Wall Street and the Republican contingency see him as a stronger leader than either Perry or Romeny, the two leading candidates. Having said that, Christie knows that he still has massive amounts of work to do in New Jersey, and governors who have had multiple terms in their states (Bill Clinton, George W. Bush to name a few) have gone on to have two-term presidencies. A second term for Christie would provide him with additional experience on running New Jersey, and better prepare him for a potential run at President. He also would not be going against Obama, due to term limits. This gives him a much better chance, should he decide to run, at winning the election. For those of you clamoring for Christie now, patience is a virtue. You may eventually get what you want in 2016. Just not right now.
