According to
Forbes
, research conducted by Marketing Evaluations, a company which surveys consumers about their opinions on people and brands, proves that both Glenn Beck and Keith Olbermann generate far more negative than positive feeling. Big surprise, right? But this is interesting, because if Beck is Yin, Olbermann is the closest there is to a Yang. The results of the research are showing that both men (though Beck in particular) are becoming more recognizable as the years pass, yet their popularity remains low. Approximately one third of consumers know who Olbermann is, compared to 49 percent recognition for Beck. Of those people, 10 percent have a favorable impression of Olbermann, while Beck's positive rating is 17 percent. Interestingly enough, Olbermann's negative rating is 42 percent, compared to a very heavy 48 percent for Beck. The results suggest that, while Olbermann is really disliked by those that dislike him, he is less polarizing than Beck who people tend to genuinely love or hate. The negative feelings towards the two men help to explain why they parted company with Fox News and MSNBC this year. However, could it be that the networks missed a trick? A “Beck & Olbermann” TV show, in the mould of “Hannity & Colmes” but far, far more inflammatory would surely generate viewing figures that would shame even Bill O'Reilly. The risk of the two of them killing each other might necessitate some kind of a dividing wall between them and a split screen. But this research may suggest that this is the debate everyone wants to see on their televisions on a regular basis. Bring it on!
