Ford Motor Co. F is starting the production of the new 2015 Mustang today at its Flat Rock Assembly Plant. This is the sixth generation of the iconic car, which has been in production since 1964.

This is the first Mustang that will be sold in over 120 countries. In fact, Ford has developed a right-hand drive version of the car. While it is currently a prototype that is undergoing various development tests, its final version will be a valuable addition to Ford's global product portfolio as it will open doors to over 25 right-hand drive markets, including the United Kingdom, Australia and South Africa.

Ford unveiled the 2015 Mustang in Dec 2013 and started taking orders for the eagerly awaited car in May 2014. Deliveries of the car will start later this year and it will be available at Ford dealerships in the U.S. from this fall.

The new Mustang retains characteristic features like the long sculpted hood and short rear deck. Its additional elements include a lower roof, wider rear fenders and track as well as a steeply sloped windshield and rear glass. The multi-layer insulated cloth top of the new car facilitates a quieter cabin and can be lowered in half the time as compared with the earlier version.

The new Mustang comes with three engine options, namely V6, V8 and EcoBoost. The least expensive of the three, the 3.7-liter V6, supports 300 horsepower and 270 lb.-ft. of torque.

The Mustang with the 5.0-liter V8 engine offers enhanced valvetrain and cylinder heads, with over 420 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque, apart from higher fuel efficiency and lower emission. The 2.3-liter Mustang EcoBoost engine delivers more than 305 horsepower and 300 lb.-ft. of torque, as well as higher fuel efficiency on the back of direct injection, variable cam timing and turbocharging.

Ford has sold over 9.2 million Mustangs in the 50 years that it has been in production. Currently, the company carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).

Better-ranked automobile stocks that are worth considering include Tesla Motors, Inc. TSLA, Fox Factory Holding Corp FOXF and Gentherm Incorporated THRM. While Tesla sports a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy), Fox Factory and Gentherm have a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
