For each of the past 12 years, Kelly Blue Book (KBB) has released its annual “Coolest Cars Under $18,000” list, a subjective ranking of the coolest and most affordable new cars on the market according to KBB editors. Here’s a rundown of the top five coolest cars according to this year’s list.

5. Honda Civic coupe ($17,267)

Honda Motor Co Ltd’s HMC Civic has only two doors, which KBB believes makes the model much cooler than other Honda models. Civics are also well-known for their standard amenities, including a six-speaker audio system and rearview camera.

4. Jeep Renegade ($18,402)

KBB editors thought the 2015 Renegade was so cool that they bent the rules a bit to include it in the list, despite a price slightly above the $18,000 cap. The only brand new model on the list, the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV FCAU Renegade comes with dual sunroofs and power doors and windows as standard features.

3. Kia Soul ($15,137)

KBB likes the Soul for its unique and trendy box-shaped design. The model also includes a standard AM/FM/USB/Bluetooth/SiriusXM audio system.

2. Volkswagen Golf coupe ($17,608)

You don’t have to take KBB’s word on how cool the Volkswagen Golf is. The 2015 model won both the Motor Trend Car of the Year award and the North American Car of the Year award. Aside from its sporty look, the standard model comes with an eight-speaker audio system, touchscreen controls and a 170-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine.

1. Mazda3 Sedan ($16,681)

The Mazda3 has made KBB’s list of coolest cars list each of the 12 years. According to KBB editors, the Mazda3’s styling is one of the sleekest designs among compact cars, enough to earn it the top spot in this year’s list.
