Maybe Citron Research’s Andrew Left is not the most feared man in biotech after all.

Are you familiar with The Street's Adam Feuerstein? This investigative journalist goes so deep that he has gotten CEOs fired, executives imprisoned, stocks to plummet and PR heads to tremble when faced to the sole idea of having to respond to one of his articles or tweets.

There's almost nobody who can call biotechs on their "crap" (overhyped drugs, distorted data) like this man does. Even though he is sometimes mistaken, investors and analysts take his words very seriously. STAT writer Rebecca Robins recently had the privilege to pick the mind of the writer.

"I have an itchy trigger finger on hypocrisy," Feuerstein told the site. "If you're just going to try to blow smoke up my ass, I’m not interested in hearing what you have to say."

A Well-Accepted No Bullcrap Approach

Boasting more than 50,000 Twitter followers, Feuerstein is popular "for a guy who writes dense, insidery articles that often require a whole lot of Googling to unpack," Robins stated.

The journalist portraying Feuerstein tried to get people in the biotech industry to talk about him, but most of them refused. Nobody wants to take on "an 800-pound gorilla" as one of the people described him.

Among the very few people who were wiling to talk about this analyst was bluebird bio Inc BLUE's CEO Nick Leschly, who assured Feuerstein "has an acute bullshit meter… If he thinks you're bullshitting him, or he thinks you’re holding back, or you’re not being balanced, he's going to eat you alive."

His own boss, Jeffrey Kanige, editor-in-chief of TheStreet, qualified his work as "scrupulously fair" even though he has probably caused many headaches for the media outlet.

Disclosure: Javier Hasse holds no positions in any of the securities mentioned above.
