Jesse Jackson Off His Rocker Once Again
Jesse Jackson has managed to look like a fool once again, this time by insulting his own black heritage.
The day after LeBron announced his decision to leave Cleveland for Miami, Cavs owner Dan Gilbert issued a letter to Cleveland fans trashing James. Well, Jesse Jackson took exception to the criticism and criticized Gilbert for viewing James as a "runaway slave".
Jackson said of Gibson, "He speaks as an owner of LeBron and not the owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers. His feelings of betrayal personify a slave master mentality. He sees LeBron as a runaway slave. This is an owner employee relationship-between business partners-and LeBron honored his contract."
Jackson went on to say that Gilbert's comments are an attack on all NBA players.
Comparing LeBron James, a multi-million dollar athlete, and his plight to that of a runaway slave is insulting to all African Americans who suffered under slavery in this country. There was no contract between slave master and slave 200 years ago. Slaves were employed against their will by threats of destituion, detention, violence or other extreme hardships.
Mr. Jackson needs to think twice before making such glib and insulting comments in the future.
