People in Scotland are voting today to choose whether to remain a part of the United Kingdom or become an independent country. The result of the referendum will be announced later tonight. Latest polls suggest that “No” camp has a lead, though rather narrow, over the “Yes” camp. But with more than 5% of voters undecided at the time of polls, the lead was within the margin of error.
What would happen if the vote is for independence? For Scotland, the transition may generate a lot of instability even though the nationalists claim greater prosperity for independent Scotland. And, there will certainly be a huge impact on British markets and the Sterling.
The markets do not like uncertainty and if there is a “Yes” vote, it would mean a lot of political and economic uncertainty, not only for Britain and Scotland but also for global markets. Do you expect a significant impact on the markets here?
