Varian Medical Systems (VAR) announced a strategic alliance with a provider of business application software, Infor for using the latter's Cloverleaf Integration and Information Exchange Suite, which is developed exclusively for the healthcare industry to facilitate efficient integration and information exchange.

Varian Medical Systems plans to deploy the Cloverleaf Suite to streamline the exchange of healthcare data across the care continuum in order to allow healthcare professionals collect usable outcomes data and work for improved quality of care.

Varian Medical Systems will, in fact, utilize all the modules available within the Infor Cloverleaf Integration and Information Exchange Suite. The Cloverleaf Suite offers security, messaging, monitoring, archiving, resiliency, and cost efficient interoperability via industry standard protocols and web services, regardless of the source system, message format, or transmission protocol.  

As a result, the software package will allow Varian Medical Systems' customers to manage interfaces anytime and anywhere, send and receive data securely, and aggregate and share data from diverse systems, including hospital information systems, labs, health information exchanges, and state and national registries.

Recently, Varian Medical Systems revealed that it has completed installing five treatment rooms at the Scripps Proton Therapy Center at the beginning of this year. In addition, the company has upgraded its ProBeam system software to ProBeam version 2.5 in order to enhance workflow at the site and provide better images generated by the system's integrated imager.

The tests conducted at Scripps Proton Therapy Center also confirmed that the company's proprietary cone-beam CT solution, currently used on all TrueBeam machines, is compatible with ProBeam technology.  The functionality of generating high-quality images will be made available to customers at Scripps in 2015.  

Varian Medical Systems will display its ProBeam system at the meeting of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) at the end of this week. The ProBeam system incorporates Varian Medical Systems' unique Dynamic Peak scanning technology for intensity-modulated proton therapy (IMPT), robotic patient positioning tools, and a comprehensive suite of motion management tools.
