Countries Agree to Accelerate Work on Climate Pact Program

Bonn, Germany, Nov. 18 (Jiji Press)--Countries agreed on Saturday to accelerate their work to complete a work program under the Paris climate pact in 2018. The agreement was included in a declaration adopted to wrap up an annual U.N. climate conference in Bonn, Germany. The declaration underscored the importance of keeping the momentum and continuing to uphold the spirit and vision of the Paris agreement. Countries agreed to hold an additional meeting before the next conference, set for December 2018 in Poland, to ensure that the work program is completed. This year's conference came after the United States, the second largest greenhouse gas emitter, announced its plan to exit the Paris agreement in June. The Paris agreement sets a framework for emission reductions starting in 2020. The declaration also underscored the importance of emission reduction efforts before 2020.Copyright JIJI PRESS LTD.
