Even though some critics have argued that Apple Inc. AAPL has lost its mojo, the tech giant continues to push the boundaries of consumer technology. In a recent report, DisplayMate analyst Ray Soneira called the new 9.7-inch iPad Pro “the best performing mobile LCD display” that he ever tested.
According to the research note, DisplayMate found that the 9.7-inch iPad Pro returned display performance metrics that broke many records. For instance, the new iPad offers:
- The highest absolute color accuracy 1.35 JNCD) for the two standard Color Gamuts it supports
- The lowest screen reflectance (just 1.7 percent of the ambient light) for any mobile display
- The highest peak brightness (511 nits) among full-size tablets, for any picture level
- The highest contrast rating (301) in ambient light
- The least color variation with viewing angle (less than 2.0 JNCD)

Interestingly, the 9.7-inch iPad Pro’s display outperforms its bigger sibling’s, the 12.9-inch iPad Pro’s, in every aspect, except for black luminance – which allows for a higher contrast ratio when using it in the dark. “The iPad Pro 12.9 is still a very good display, it’s just that the iPad Pro 9.7 is so much better than anything else,” Soneira added.
