Speaking to Benzinga, Dougherty & Company Senior Research Analyst Andrea James said that statistics from IHS Automotive for Tesla Motors Inc TSLA vehicle registrations doesn't represent a new direction in sales.
There were 2,391 new registrations for Tesla's Model S in October, according to IHS Automotive, which is an increase of 152 percent from the same time last year. But James doesn't think this is a big deal.
"If the numbers are accurate at all, it is just tied to shipment timing and really can't be used as a proxy for sales trend," James said.
