Cypress' TrueTouch Gen5 Touchscreen Controller Chosen by ZTE - Analyst Blog

Cypress Semiconductor Corporation's CY TrueTouch Gen5 capacitive touchscreen controller TMA568 has been selected by ZTE, a provider of mobile phones, telecommunications equipment and network solutions, for its premium nubia X6 superphone.

The Gen5 TMA568 controller's gloved finger tracking technology will be used in the phones to offer enhanced finger tracking and sensitivity on a high-powered 6.44-inch touchscreen display. The gloved finger tracking tool will allow customers to use the phone even with their gloves on. It automatically shifts between the glove and finger tracking mode without any manual intervention.

The Gen5 TMA568 controller offers features like superior electric noise protection, waterproofing, accurate stylus support, palm rejection and sensitivity to larger size touchscreens for superphones and other smart devices to optimize the performance of the touchscreens in real-world conditions.

Cypress's TrueTouch products leverage the industry's most effective capacitive touch intelligent property IP selection to provide solutions for single touch, two-finger touch, and multi-touch capability for screen sizes from 1.5” to 10.1".

TrueTouch controllers are known for delivering charger noise immunity, water-resistance ability, power-efficiency and precise finger tracking technology. The phones using these controllers offer superior performance and have an edge over its competitors.

ZTE Corporation, a Chinese multinational company, provides telecommunications equipment, network solutions and mobile phones worldwide. Nubia is ZTE's top-in-the-line smartphone brand.

This is not the first time that Cypress and ZTE have collaborated with each other. Previously, ZTE had selected TrueTouch Gen4 capacitive touchscreen controllers for its nubia Z5S and nubia Z5S Mini smartphones.

Cypress is a semiconductor company, offering high-performance, mixed signal and programmable solutions. It reported revenues of $170.3 million, up 1.5% sequentially but down 1.4% year over year. This was above the higher end of management's guidance range of $161.0–$168.0 million driven by improvement across all divisions, and especially the continued strength in its TrueTouch products.

Cypress currently holds a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Other better-ranked stocks in the same sector include Broadcom Corp. BRCM and Wi-Lan Inc. WILN, both carrying a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy), and Marvell Technology Group Ltd. MRVL, holding a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
