SAP, German Football Association Use Big Data For FIFA Training - Analyst Blog

Given the rapid technological innovation in sports, fan experience, player performance monitoring, team management, ticketing and venue operations are radically changing. The German Football Association (DFB) is eager to drive this industry transformation further. Thus, in order to take football to another level and improve team practice, the German Football Association and SAP AG SAP have come together to unveil a novel platform called SAP Match Insights.

This solution is primarily targeted at assisting the analysis of training, preparation and tournaments. Further, powered with SAP HANA, this platform allows coaches and scouts to process substantial amount of data (Big Data) to find and evaluate key situations in matches to improve player and team performance, ultimately improving the on-field experience of the World Cup. To optimize training and tactics, adequate and significant data is an indispensable resource for coaches and players for contextualizing information and drawing appropriate conclusions. The SAP Match Insights platform is expected to revolutionize the football experience for coaches, players, fans and the media as well (aiding them to deliver a better informed commentary).

SAP Match Insights is developed on a simple user interface which can be accessed by coaches (as well as by players) for carrying out interactive conversations. The platform will also provide coaches an insight into the errors made in the previous matches thereby allowing the players to better prepare for future matches. This innovative solution can create seven million data points with 10 players and three balls in just 10 minutes. Meanwhile, SAP HANA can process this information in real time to customize training for the next match.

The German national team will implement the contemporary SAP Match Insights football solution much ahead of the World Cup in order to help the team analyze the previously played matches. Gradually, the solution will be offered to other clubs and football federations as well.

The collaboration between SAP and DFB dates back to 2013, when the two announced a partnership to improve business of the federation. The co-development of the revolutionary SAP Match Insights also forms part of this alliance. Prior to this, the DFB had installed the SAP CRM rapid-deployment solution supported by SAP HANA, and the SAP Event Ticketing software, both running on the SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud.

SAP currently has a Zacks Rank # 3 (Hold). Some better-ranked stocks in the sector worth considering at the moment are Blackbaud Inc. BLKB, Citrix Systems, Inc. CTXS and Manhattan Associates Inc. MANH. All three sport a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy).
