may not be as black and white as originally appeared. JMP Securities analyst Patrick Walravens noted that Responsys may get a competing bid from SAP, IBM or Microsoft. Walravens reported that the SAP has been in partnership discussions with Responsys and “would have little to lose” with a higher bid. FBR analyst Daniel Ives commented that he does not expect any other bidders for Responsys. Ives added that this deal with Oracle will make sense and will “pair nicely” with Oracle's acquisition of Eloqua in 2012. Both analysts noted that Oracle's planned acquisition will renew speculation on other SaaS companies to be acquired including SciQuest, Callidus, InContact, Marketo, Cornerstone OnDemand, Rally Software, and NetSuite. Daniel Ives noted that the Oracle/Resposys acquisition enables a more likely acquisition for Marketo by NetSuite or SAP, as NetSuite and SAP have not moved into the digital marketing space. Responsys closed at $19.52 on Thursday. Shares have traded up as much as 43.391% at $27.99.
