Walt Disney Opts Against SEAL Team 6 Trademark

Dow component and media conglomerate Walt Disney DIS has withdrawn an application that sought to trademark the term "SEAL Team 6," after the U.S. Navy SEAL team responsible for killing notorious terrorist Osama bin Laden in Pakistan earlier this month. California-based Disney filed the trademark application on May 3, two days after SEAL Team 6 killed bin Laden. Disney wanted to use the trademark for toys, games and other consumer products, according to the Wall Street Journal. The U.S. Navy filed its own trademark application on May 13 seeking to protect the terms “SEAL Team”and “Navy SEALs," the Journal reported. Disney's ABC network is also developing a TV show about Navy SEALs, though that issue is viewed as tentative, according to the Journal.
