Windstream-Infinera Unite to Boost Wave Transport Solution

Windstream Holdings Inc. WIN is gradually expanding its wave transport services with 100 Gbps data transmission speeds in the U.S. The company is using Infinera Corp.'s INFN DTN-X platform to expand its network. DTN-X platform enables Windstream to significantly increase the capacity of its network infrastructure to meet the growing demand for large data transmissions.

Windstream is a leading rural local exchange carrier in the U.S. The company offers broadband, telephony and digital TV services to consumers primarily in rural areas. Windstream also provides advanced network communications such as cloud computing and managed services to business enterprises. The company is aiming to provide 100 Gbps network in 44 U.S. markets by the end of this year.

In Apr 2015, Windstream completed the tax-free spin-off of select telecommunications network assets to become an independent publicly traded real estate investment trust (REIT). The new company is known as Communications Sales & Leasing Inc. CSAL. In terms of infrastructural development, the company aims to offer faster broadband speeds, after the spin-off.

Recently, Windstream reported encouraging financial results in the second quarter of 2015. The company's second-quarter loss was narrower than expected while revenues beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate. However, the company lost 2.9% of its high-speed Internet customers and 5.5% digital television subscribers in the reported quarter.

Of late, Windstream has adopted a number of steps to expand its business. The company has been adding a number of data centers, employing efficient sales executives to boost sales and focusing on providing better customer service.

In Jun 2015, Windstream launched a new cloud-to-cloud disaster recovery management solution which replicates mission-critical virtual servers and data to provide an alternative system for cloud-based disaster recovery system to the customers. Windstream's cloud-to-cloud recovery system uses the enterprise-class cloud replication software of Zerto.
