Verizon Digital Media Unveils ImageIQ Technology - Analyst Blog

Verizon Digital Media of Verizon Communications Inc. VZ has launched ImageIQ Video Bandwidth Reduction – a technology that will support efficient video content delivery to enhance the end user's experience.

This new technology offered by A2Zlogix enables significant reduction in video file size without any quality deterioration that is characteristic to other noise-suppression technologies. This new advancement in content delivery will support linear, live and video-on-demand broadcasts.

Verizon expects this technology to address the rapidly growing demand for video content delivery across its network without having to incur a large infrastructure investment. The new Video Bandwidth Reduction technology operates on almost all static and mobile equipments ranging from IMAX 3D movie screens to smartphones.

In order to enhance its capabilities in video delivery, Verizon intends development of a new cloud services product suite. Further, to support its next generation video services, Verizon entered into an agreement with Intel Corp. INTC to acquire OnCue, a unit of Intel that offers Cloud TV products and services, in Jan 2014.

Going forward, the company is also working on its acquisition of additional spectrum to support various data services including mobile video delivery. On Jan 6, 2014, Verizon Wireless announced its agreement to transfer 700 MHz A Block spectrum licenses to T-Mobile US, Inc. TMUS against a sum of $2.4 billion and spectrum licenses in the AWS and PCS bands. The bands will help in expanding its 4G LTE network coverage. The transaction is expected to close by the first half of 2014.

Further, in Apr 2014, the company entered into an agreement with Cincinnati Bell Inc. CBB for purchasing spectrum licenses worth $194 million. The deal is expected to close by the second half of this year and would incorporate licenses in key markets like Greater Cincinnati and Dayton, Ohio areas of northern Kentucky and south-eastern Indiana. In these areas, Cincinnati Bell reportedly offered GSM-based 2G, 3G and HSPA+ services through 460 cell sites.

Currently, Verizon has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
